Capo d’Orlando is a town in the Metropolitan City of Messina, located along the Tyrrhenian coast of north-eastern Sicily.

The town lies mainly along the coast, overlooking the Tyrrhenian Sea, while its territory extends inland towards the surrounding hills and the Nebrodi Mountains.

Its location along one of the main routes connecting Messina and Palermo makes it easily accessible and an important hub for transport and tourism.

A Journey Through Capo d’Orlando’s History

Capo d’Orlando is one of the main towns along the Tyrrhenian coast in the Messina area and an important historical, economic and tourist centre for the Nebrodi region.

Its origins are linked to the development of small agricultural and fishing settlements in the area of ancient Agathyrnum, a Greek city mentioned in classical sources.

For centuries, the area was characterised by scattered houses, rural estates and small settlements, subject to feudal rule and raids from the sea. It was only between the late nineteenth century and the early decades of the twentieth century that the town began to develop more extensively, thanks to the construction of the Tyrrhenian railway line and the growth of commercial and maritime activities.

A key moment in the community’s history came in 1925, when Capo d’Orlando gained administrative independence from the neighbouring municipality of Naso, beginning a new phase of growth and territorial development.

After the Second World War, the town underwent significant urban and population growth, becoming a modern and dynamic centre that combines tourism, business and public services.

Today, Capo d’Orlando is a vibrant town with a strong cultural identity, open to both the sea and the Nebrodi Mountains, and playing a central role in the life of the surrounding area.
